Skateboarding

DAY BY DAY — The Iris Story

Hundreds of thousands of skateboards are discarded in landfills every year. This is clearly wasteful—which is why some people have been developing ways to recycle old skateboards into other functional items. George Rocha is one of these craftsmen. Working out of his house in the Sunset District of San Francisco, Rocha created Iris, a line of hand-crafted skateboards and furniture made from discarded decks that he collects around the city. Not only is this environmentally responsible, but the pieces being created by Iris are works of art in their own right.

Watch the above above video by Jeremy McNamara and Corda Film to learn more about Rocha and his process. Visit irisskateboards.com to see the full line of skateboards and furniture available through the Iris woodshop.
