DOUBLE TAPPED

October 3, 2014

So much good skating gets posted everyday on Insta. Some clips are so insanely good that a few years ago, they could've been legitimate video part enders. But the nature of Instagram is to be of the moment—to be instant. As a result, these clips get forever lost in the black hole of Insta's infinite scroll. "Liked" once and forgotten. Double Tapped is our way of slowing down the ever-growing feed to reflect. These are the clips that stood the test of time over the past 7 days and deserve a rewatch. Tag @berrics and hashtag #BerricsDoubleTapped on your Instavids for a chance to get in next week's Double Tapped.

CHRIS COLBOURN'S COOKIE DOUGH

The great, prophetic Cookie Monster once said, “Sometimes me think, ‘What is friend?’ And then me say, ‘Friend someone to share last cookie with.’” But if he saw this part, even he’d agree that a true friend is someone who shares Chris “Cookie” Colbourn footage. Cookie is one of our favorite up and coming ams out there, and guaranteed, he’ll be one of yours too. Consider this little treat sweeter than a whole tub of cookie dough. Speaking of cookie dough… do yourself a favor and follow Chris on Instagram: @coookie_doe

A DIFFERENT PERSPECTIVE

Dew Tour Brooklyn

It doesn't matter who you are, where you come from, what you do, everyone has a unique perspective of their own. How you look at the world is equally as important as what you do in it. Welcome to the Dew Tour in Brooklyn, as seen through the eyes of The Berrics.

CANVAS

August 2014

Skateboarders do not make up the majority of the demographic group that is youth culture. You are a minority, but like every great and powerful movement that ever came to be, you/we are becoming an increasingly powerful minority with huge influence over fashion, art and music. But why? Every month we start out with a blank canvas. Day after day we paint that canvas with another color, another shape, another purpose. We don't know what it's going to look like when it's done, but we do know that once we step back and take a look, we'll have our answer as to why something so small has made such big effects on the world. The feeling you get is the feeling you get and there's no other feeling quite like it. So this is the Berrics' canvas for August, different from July before it and for sure September after it. It is the only canvas of its kind. Enjoy. - sb

TRICKIPEDIA TUESDAYS

Trickipedia is not a Trick Tips section, but that doesn't mean you're not going to learn. Trickipedia is the general education page for skateboarding tricks started by the Berrics so that future generations understand the difference between frontside and backside and that there is no such thing as switch nollie half cabs. Each week one of Skateboarding's best will help fill Trickipedia's pages until it is the most comprehensive reference work on the planet. This week Boo Johnson adds Frontside Shuvit Nosegrinds to the mix. If you have any suggestions of who you would like to see do certain tricks in the future feel free to drop us a line at trickipedia@theberrics.com.

ALL EYES ON DAVE MULL

Over 50% of the world's population is under the age of 30. I'm no scientist, but if you were to ask me how old most pro skateboarders were I'd guesstimate more than 50% of them were OVER the age of 30. So, what does that mean? It means in a few years, five at the most, the pros you see now will not be the pros you see in the future. The pros you see now might be your brother, your friend, your neighbor, that one dude who goes to your school and sits at lunch by himself or his friend who just got his first skateboard for Christmas from Walmart. It might be you. All Eyes On was created to introduce skaters we think are going to be big contenders in the future. Maybe not tomorrow or next week, but a year, two, three maybe guys like Dave Mull are going to be the ones ruling over these Berrics airwaves and you'll get to say you saw them here first. Look out for Dave's "Western Impulse" full part dropping this Thursday. —sb

WELCOME BACK, MALTO

Sean took a terrifying slam in 2013, putting him out of commission for months. After extensive physical rehabilitation (and an utterly superhuman amount of patience), he's back on the board and ready to tear shit up.

To all you up-and-coming skate beasts: When you get hurt, give your body time to heal like Sean did, and don't neglect the need to work your muscles. We all know the aggravating feeling of wanting to skate when you're hurt, but if you give yourself enough time you'll be able to get back to your normal level of pre-injury skating pretty quickly. Sermon over.

SHOOT ALL SKATERS

Jon Holland - Part 2

You know how they say, "behind every great man is a great woman"? Something similar can be said about skateboarders only it would go something like this: behind every great skateboarder is a great photographer and/or Filmer. If a trick were to happen and no one were there to photograph or film it in order for you to see it, did it really happen? You ever heard that other cliche, "I'll believe it when I see it"? I think a skateboarder made that up. Think about everything you've seen and were inspired by in skateboarding and I'll bet you most of it has been through the invention of photography or filmmaking. Throughout the evolution of skateboarding there has always been the photographer and/or filmer right there by the skateboarders side ensuring that whatever happened it would be documented for the world to see. Enjoy. -- sb

Jon Holland is 1 of 11 visionary filmmakers we handpicked for REDirect—a very special film project in association with RED Cameras, the industry standard for Hollywood movies. We gave him a RED cam and complete creative control to bring his vision of skateboarding to life, and you'll be able to watch his submission this Wednesday. But first, get to know more about the man behind the lens.

NIKE SB GO SKATE DAY

Nike SB went all out for GSD 2014. They went so damn hard that they somehow liberated the iconic Santa Monica Courthouse, redoing all of the ledges and converting the famous stage into a handrail/hubba setup for the weekend. After a surprise announcement at Stoner Plaza, P-Rod, Colden, Ribeiro, Boserio, and more were on hand to break it all in. Please pray to the gods of city bureaucracy that LA government keeps the spot up and running for good. It's far too amazing to tear down...
