DOUBLE TAPPED

July, 25 2014

So much good skating gets posted everyday on Insta. Some clips are so insanely good that a few years ago, they could've been legitimate video part enders. But the nature of Instagram is to be of the moment—to be instant. As a result, these clips get forever lost in the black hole of Insta's infinite scroll. "Liked" once and forgotten. Double Tapped is our way of slowing down the ever-growing feed to reflect. These are the clips that stood the test of time over the past 7 days and deserve a rewatch. Tag @berrics and hashtag #BerricsDoubleTapped on your Instavids for a chance to get in next week's Double Tapped.

WELCOME BACK, MALTO

Sean took a terrifying slam in 2013, putting him out of commission for months. After extensive physical rehabilitation (and an utterly superhuman amount of patience), he's back on the board and ready to tear shit up.

To all you up-and-coming skate beasts: When you get hurt, give your body time to heal like Sean did, and don't neglect the need to work your muscles. We all know the aggravating feeling of wanting to skate when you're hurt, but if you give yourself enough time you'll be able to get back to your normal level of pre-injury skating pretty quickly. Sermon over.

TRICKIPEDIA TUESDAYS

Trickipedia is not a Trick Tips section, but that doesn't mean you're not going to learn. Trickipedia is the general education page for skateboarding tricks started by The Berrics so that future generations understand the difference between frontside and backside and that there is no such thing as switch nollie half cabs. Each week, one of Skateboarding's best will help fill Trickipedia's pages until it is the most comprehensive reference work on the planet. This week, Nick Tucker adds Backside Nosegrind Nollie Heelflip Out to the mix in HD. If you have any suggestions of who you would like to see do certain tricks in the future, feel free to drop us a line at trickipedia@theberrics.com.

SHOOT ALL SKATERS

Jon Holland - Part 2

You know how they say, "behind every great man is a great woman"? Something similar can be said about skateboarders only it would go something like this: behind every great skateboarder is a great photographer and/or Filmer. If a trick were to happen and no one were there to photograph or film it in order for you to see it, did it really happen? You ever heard that other cliche, "I'll believe it when I see it"? I think a skateboarder made that up. Think about everything you've seen and were inspired by in skateboarding and I'll bet you most of it has been through the invention of photography or filmmaking. Throughout the evolution of skateboarding there has always been the photographer and/or filmer right there by the skateboarders side ensuring that whatever happened it would be documented for the world to see. Enjoy. -- sb

Jon Holland is 1 of 11 visionary filmmakers we handpicked for REDirect—a very special film project in association with RED Cameras, the industry standard for Hollywood movies. We gave him a RED cam and complete creative control to bring his vision of skateboarding to life, and you'll be able to watch his submission this Wednesday. But first, get to know more about the man behind the lens.

NIKE SB GO SKATE DAY

Nike SB went all out for GSD 2014. They went so damn hard that they somehow liberated the iconic Santa Monica Courthouse, redoing all of the ledges and converting the famous stage into a handrail/hubba setup for the weekend. After a surprise announcement at Stoner Plaza, P-Rod, Colden, Ribeiro, Boserio, and more were on hand to break it all in. Please pray to the gods of city bureaucracy that LA government keeps the spot up and running for good. It's far too amazing to tear down...

ELEMENT MAKE IT COUNT

Midwest Tour 2014

Join Evan Smith, Levi Brown, Chris Colbourn (his first trip with Element!), and the Make It Count crew as they head through the Midwest throwing amateur skate contests for local scenes to find the next best talent out there. From contests at Familia Skatepark in Minnesota, Cream City in Milwaukee, and Modern in Detroit to jumping in random rivers, beautifying dumpsters, and grinding crazy handrails off the side of the road, it’s nothin’ but good times for Make It Count. Look out for more MIC coverage in the coming weeks, and make sure to get your ass down to one of the events when the tour comes through your town. Watch their previous trip through the East Coast here.

BRIAN PEACOCK CHECKS IN AT P-ROD'S PARK

He's got a Primitive shirt and board... Is Brian Peacock the newest addition to Primitive Skateboarding? Only time will tell... But for now, watch him get his manny on in P-Rod's park.

PAUL RODRIGUEZ 8

Now Available

P-Rod was the first skater to get a signature Nike SB pro model. Now he's on number 8. The Paul Rodriguez 8 takes its inspiration from Air Jordan 1s, using all sorts of crazy basketball-influenced technology like a Hyperscreen+ traction layer for durability, dynamic Flywire cables, and Lunarlon for cushioning. And it looks like it skates pretty damn well too.

THIS IS FINALS NIGHT

Only a few people have skated in Finals Night. And only fewer have won BATB. It's the most intense game of SKATE you'll ever play, and the pressure is crazier than anything you could ever imagine. This is Finals Night through the eyes of all five previous BATB champions: MikeMo, Chris Cole, P-Rod, Morgan Smith, and PJ Ladd. It all comes down to this...

It’s been a long, arduous road to Finals Night. But after 3 months, 28 games, 16 Pros, 16 "Joes", and hundreds of the craziest tricks ever done on a skateboard, it's finally goin' down tonight between Eric Koston, Luan Oliveira, Cody Cepeda, and Sewa Kroetkov. This is Battle at the Berrics and there's only gonna be one winner... So may God have mercy on your souls. Watch it live, right here, at 7pm PST.

SUPRA BEST OF BOO JOHNSON

Boo's got one of the smoothest styles in the game. Supra put together a Best Of compilation of all his footage he's stacked on Supra trips, and believe us, it's definitely worth a watch. But you already know that. After all, what better use of 5 minutes do you have? Nothin' better than this, guaranteed.

REDirect is a celebration of skateboard filmmaking featuring 12 of the most visionary filmmakers in the world, each responsible in their own way for directing the overall look and feel of the modern skate video as we know it. YOONIVISION

Beagle's Skate Tank

I've been on many missions with Beagle and the Skatetank, probably the most famous Ford Econoline van in the world. You never know what you're gonna get into when you get into the Skatetank with its captain Beagle. Some days you may see some amazing "hammers", other days you may be in a parking lot for hours doing pressure flips all day long. Either way, the hi-jinx is always at an all time high. It's always good times with Beagle, and the KFC and Wienerschnitzel (which Beagle knows every location of one in the United States-seriously) is more than abundant. Here are some memorable moments from missions with Beagle and the world's most famous Ford Econoline.

CANVAS

May 2014

Skateboarders do not make up the majority of the demographic group that is youth culture. You are a minority, but like every great and powerful movement that ever came to be, you/we are becoming an increasingly powerful minority with huge influence over fashion, art and music. But why? Every month we start out with a blank canvas. Day after day we paint that canvas with another color, another shape, another purpose. We don't know what it's going to look like when it's done, but we do know that once we step back and take a look, we'll have our answer as to why something so small has made such big effects on the world. The feeling you get is the feeling you get and there's no other feeling quite like it. So this is the Berrics' canvas for May, different from April before it and for sure June after it. It is the only canvas of its kind. Enjoy. - sb
