TURNING POINT — Tony Hawk’s 900

At the 1999 X-Games, before a capacity crowd of engaged fans, Tony Hawk became the first skater on record to land a 900. It was immediately clear that this was a monumental occasion in the skateboarding world, but “The 900” also created a new frame of reference for a mainstream audience; this was a signature moment for a soon-to-be household name.
