A$AP ROCKY SAYS MOST OF HIS FRIENDS SKATE

A couple of weeks ago, A$AP Rocky released his third studio album titled Testing. It was certainly overshadowed by the Pusha T and Drake beef, but knocks none-the-less. Give it a listen if you haven’t already. Rocky has a strong affinity for skate culture, and has credited it as a major influence on his style on multiple occasions. The latest comes at the 4:57 mark of this interview with Genius in which he breaks down the lyrics of “Praise The Lord (Da Shine),” which is the first single off the new album.

It’s punk aesthetic. And it’s skate aesthetic. Like skaters and punks, we grew up in Manhattan. Most of my friends still skate. It just be like that. It’s just regular shit.

The video for “Praise The Lord (Da Shine)” was released today. The visual for the track, which features Skepta, was shot half in New York and half in London. The art direction and cinematography are on point, and you can definitely pick up on the cues that Rocky has taken from skate videos. Check it out for yourself below.
