DISABLED TORTOISE GETS NEW LEASE ON LIFE… BY SKATEBOARDING

Randy Betz, a medical sales consultant from Delaware, has several dozen tortoises that he’s raised, becoming sort of a reptile expert over the years. But when one tortoise, “Helix,” was born with a form of turtle spina bifida, he turned to skateboarding to help cure the problem. By attaching a mini truck and wheels to the tiny tort’s undercarriage, Helix has been able to get around, and it’s training him to be able to walk on his own someday. (Incidentally, Betz used the truck from a Primitive Devine Calloway fingerboard.) It worked like a charm—we may even give this little fella an honorary 2Up trophy!

Check out the video above, by the good homies at ABC 6 Philadelphia, and marvel at how loose trucks really do save lives. Shell yes!

Helix shirts are available now and $5 from every purchase goes to fund turtle and tortoise conservation.
