Electronic Arts Announces Forthcoming Fourth Game In ‘Skate’ Series

In 2016, The Berrics blitzed social media with our ‘Make EA Skate Again’ (we even made hats), with the express purpose of rallying the community of skateboarding gamers—and gaming skaters—together for a new entry in the series. The game series’ publisher, Electronic Arts, simply trolled us in return. Well, it’s now a full four years later and we can definitely say… our campaign worked: Electronic Arts’ veteran Skate developers Deran Chung and creative director Chris Parry announced towards the end of today’s EA Play Live event that a fourth Skate entry (the previous one, Skate 3, released in 2010) is in the early planning stages. …Don’t worry, we already checked our calendars, and it isn’t April 1.

“You commented this into existence—amazing!”

During the announcement, Parry said, “We’re back, we’re doing it! Skate’s happening; we’re rolling. We secretly got together. It’s the beginning; the Skate evolution continues.”

“We’ve been waiting years, honestly, to make the right game, at the right time, with the right idea,” Chung added, “and… really, really pleased to say that we’re here.” (Check out EA’s Twitter post above for more info.)

The details are super vague at this point, but with competing titles like Session, Skater XL, and the upcoming THPS 1 & 2 remaster (and to a lesser extent, Skate Story), EA has proper motivation to enter the skateboarding video game market once again. Let’s hope that it doesn’t take another ten years for us to get our greasy thumbs on this.
