Last month, Elle magazine interviewed five of the world’s top female skaters at the X Games Minneapolis stop. Naturally, the mag led the Olympics-centered article with Leticia Bufoni, who has had possibly the biggest influence in bringing women’s skateboarding to a more equitable level in the 2010s. Here’s the mag’s well-researched bio for her:

“Leticia Bufoni’s trajectory to being named one of Forbes Most Powerful Women in International Sports wasn’t without some pushback. Growing up in São Paulo, her passion for skateboarding was often at odds with her father’s passion for anything but skateboarding. While he may have tried to steer her away from the sport, at one point even smashing her board in front of her, Bufoni’s talent prevailed. Her fervent social media following has landed her deals with brands like Nike and a spot on Brazil’s first-ever Olympic skateboarding team.”
