FLATBAR: THE FIRST ENERGY BAR FOR SKATEBOARDERS

 FLATBAR Indiegogo

FLATBAR, the world’s first energy bar designed specifically for the rigors of skateboarding, has officially launched its fundraising campaign on Indiegogo. The energy bar was created by Johnny Lozano, the mind behind the vegan food/skate blog "Salad Grinds & Bean Plants," and early campaign backers could get some pretty sweet items, like skate mags signed by Ed Templeton, Walker Ryan, and Ryan Lay, or custom-built cutting boards designed by Dave Bachinsky!

For the past seven months or so, Lozano been developing this plant-based (vegan), real food energy bar for skateboarders. And homeboy knows what skateboarders need to fuel up for skating—he’s been skating for twenty years. With a goal in mind to serve up convenient, healthful snacks designed specifically for the rigors of skating, Lozano is looking to take some of the market share away from Big Junk Food while at the same time educating skaters about how to properly snack (without all the artificial sugars and fillers you find in the typical mass-produced “healthy energy bars” found in the snack aisle).

FLATBAR Indiegogo

FLATBAR started its development process in Lozano’s Texas kitchen, and put to the test in the streets and parks by Cody McEntire, Sebo Walker, Shawn Hale, Walker Ryan, Tom Rohrer, Dave Bachinsky, and Will Flores. The bars’ simple, unique ingredients were perfected with a tasty mix of nuts, seeds, and fruits, including goji berries, mangoes, almonds, quinoa, and more.

And Lozano’s finishing touch—the pumpkin seed on top, you could say—is his penchant for puns. If you’ve read any of his vegan Salad Grinds & Bean Plants recipes, published here on The Berrics every Thursday, you already know that he has a knack for retooling any notable moment in skateboarding’s history into a food pun. (For better or worse.) FLATBAR’s three launch bars are no exception: Switch Mango Push; Banana Berrial Flip; and Goji Berry or Go Home. Lozano may be the best skate/food pun writer working today, bar none.

The inaugural FLATBAR campaign on Indiegogo is live for one month (goal is $20,000), with some amazing perks at all backing levels, from the bars themselves to skate mags signed by Ed Templeton, Walker Ryan, and Ryan Lay, or custom-built cutting boards designed by Dave Bachinsky.
