Last month, Vans released the AVE Pro—the brand’s most technically advanced shoe—and the verdict within the skate community was uniformly positive. But how much does this generation of skaters really know about the uncompromising man behind the shoe, Anthony Van Engelen? Jeff Grosso set out to give you a little backstory on AVE in the latest episode of “Loveletters To Skateboarding,” and he really leaves no waffle unturned: the early ’90s scene; big pants; small wheels; schoolyards… AVE covers decades of skateboarding in this essential episode of Vans’ highly informative series (now in its tenth season).
