Smile and put on a happy face: Warner Bros. released the first official trailer for Joker, the origin story of the beloved/reviled DC comics villain, today. And it’s kind of a mini-masterpiece. If you’ve ever wondered how Heath Ledger’s skateboarding Joker got his start in crime, this movie should satisfy your morbid curiosity. And Arthur Fleck (the Joker’s given name) has a fashion sense the bears a striking resemblance to that of modern-day Jim Greco. Cool!

Directed by Todd Phillips—best known for a long streak of bro comedies including the Hangover series, Due Date, and Old School—is slated for an October 4 release.
