JUSTIN FIGUEROA IS A RENAISSANCE MAN OF MANY TALENTS/HAIRCUTS
Everything Justin Figueroa does seems super wild. Historically speaking, Figgy’s clips have a don’t-give-a-fuck vibe (blood typically figures prominently in every part), and we guess that’s why Emerica’s pensive “FOCUS” mini-doc is so jarring.
The piece finds the Fig-meister at his recently acquired property in Vista, California, doing straight-up Home Depot shit. That in itself isn’t out of place, but when he displays some of his handcrafted furniture and artwork it’s almost a shock. How did Figgy, one of skateboarding’s pre-eminent bull-in-a-china-shop heroes, conceive and execute something so delicate and beautiful?
The last half of the doc features Figgy meditating on the meaning of mortality, and reflecting on the P-Stone tragedy. Thoughtful, sincere, and thoroughly affecting.
