Lazer Crawford Wins 2023 Damn Am Los Angeles at The Berrics

We had the pleasure of witnessing some incredible skateboarding this weekend as Skatepark of Tampa kicked off the 2023 Damn Am here at The Berrics. From practice to finals, The Berrics was a nonstop echo chamber reverberating the sounds of the stomps, cheers, and “Yew!”s of some of the gnarliest tricks effortlessly going down for 72 hours straight.

All eyes were on the reigning Damn Am Japan winner, Toa Sasaki, who strung together a mind-blowing run that started with a 360 flip front board down the 10 stair and ended with a nollie heelflip frontside boardslide, also down the 10 stair, to land in 2nd place. As gnarly as Toa’s run was, it was Lazer Crawford (the reigning Phoenix Am champ) who edged him out in the Finals with an onslaught of flip in maneuvers all over the park.

Lazer started his run with a kickflip back lip down the 10 stair and ended with a heavy hardflip back lip down the 10 (a trick that he didn’t throw in any of his previous runs), as well as a kickflip back smith down the 7 rail and a hardflip back tail down the 5 stair hubba. The consistency, number of tricks, use of the park, and the number of flip-in tricks Lazer pulled off secured his 1st place spot and continues his run of amateur contest domination. Saturday’s Qualifiers was also home to the Skater.XL Best Trick contest where Taiga Nagai took the top honors with a big spin frontside hurricane down the 10 stair. Watch the Qualifiers and Best Trick recap, above!
