NOWNESS HIGHLIGHTS HOW UNITY SKATEBOARDING IS CREATING INCLUSIVE SPACES
Nowness Media‘s Mollie Mills hooked up with Oakland, California’s Unity Skateboarding, a queer collective known for its active role in creating inclusive spaces for LGBTQ and gender non-conforming youth. If the concept of queerness is new to you, this video does an excellent job of relating how difficult it can be for younger queer skaters to feel welcome in a scene that has historically been led by straight men.
One day there will be equality, and until then skateboarding is lucky to have Unity celebrating diversity.
