‘PAPER MAGAZINE’ JOINS THE FIGHT TO SAVE NYC’S TOMPKINS SQUARE PARK

PAPER MAGAZINE JOINS THE FIGHT TO SAVE NYC'S TOMPKINS SQUARE PARK

A few weeks ago, news that the northwest corner of New York City’s Tompkins Square Park (or “TF”) may be essentially skate-stopped sent the skate community into full petition mode. The city wants the turf the asphalt at this beloved Manhattan spot, eliminating the area’s only true open, pedestrian/traffic-free spaces. Over 24,000 people have signed the petition, including Kids star Chloe Sevigny, and now Paper Magazine (home of the internet-breaking Kim K champagne photo) wants to raise awareness. Skateboarding really is finding support in the most unlikely places.

The extensive article (by Anna Grace Lee and Nicole Oliveira, with photos by Sophie Day) does an admirable job of pleading the case for leaving the spot alone. Read it in its entirety here. Sign the Change.org petition here.

We have to also point out that Quartersnacks has been at the forefront of bringing attention to this situation.
