PRISONERS ARE CREATING SKATEBOARD ART TO RAISE FUNDS FOR YOUNG SKATERS IN NEED

Today, Fresno, California’s ABC30 News reported on something incredible that’s going on at Avenal State Prison. A group of inmates are painting artwork on a bunch of old decks in order to raise money for young skaters who can’t afford good quality gear. And the artwork is fucking amazing!

The program, in partnership with local nonprofit organization Fresno Skateboard Salvage (founded by Rodney Rodriguez), plans to auction off the 40 painted boards at Fresno’s Gazebo Gardens in mid-November, with the funds set to be used to keep supplying local kids with new boards and other skate essentials. (Another cool benefit of this project is that it doubles as rehabilitation, and may even translate into an early release for some of the artists.)
