TONY HAWK SUFFERS CASE OF MISTAKEN IDENTITY IN DETROIT
Tony Hawk’s reputation precedes him—in skateboarding as well as the real world—but, in the airport security line, his famous face is virtually indistinguishable from that of another star athlete. In Detroit, the Birdman was mistaken for Tour de France cheater, and ball-less wonder, Lance Armstrong. Yikes.
Hawk laughed about the situation, which he recounted in a recent tweet:
TSA agent (staring intently): I’m trying to figure out who you look like before checking your ID.
Me: ok
TSA: that cyclist Armstrong!
Nearby agent: that ain’t Lance Armstrong
Me: he’s right
TSA: oh you look like that skateboarder (checks ID). Same last name too! Crazy!
Me: crazy— Tony Hawk (@tonyhawk) August 21, 2018
The brief moment of mistaken identity recalled another infamous blunder involving Hawk. At the end of BATB 3’s Third Place battle between Torey Pudwill and Shane O’Neill, in which he mistook O’Neill for PJ Ladd. (Here’s the moment.) Full circle:
