Traditionally, skateboarding has been a male-dominated activity. This is starting to change. Every year, more and more girls are picking up skateboards. Their progression has been phenomenal. We’re starting to see a growing segment of females skating at the level of men. This movement of female empowerment in our small segment of popular culture is so powerful that Urban Outfitters took notice and enlisted The Berrics to produce a series of short films highlighting Charlie McHarg, Jenn Soto, Mariah Duran, Nika Washington, Samarria Brevard, Savannah Headden, Una Ferrar, Vanessa Torres, Monique O’Toole, Kat Sy, Lydia Mae Martinez, Marissa Martinez, and Jazzmen Chavez. Skate Girls provides an interesting take on skateboarding from the female perspective, and is a reminder that our collective passion knows no gender boundaries.
