Vans’ Anthony Acosta Shows You How To DIY Darkroom

Vans’ skate photographer Anthony Acosta has long had a vision of himself as a seasoned photographer with his very own darkroom, processing and printing film from the comfort of home, and in the brand’s latest initiative he’s making that dream a reality. ‘These Projects Are Ads For Creativity’ is a series of mini-docs exploring the many facets of the do-it-yourself ethos as it pertains to art, which flourishes in skateboarding. Like Acosta, most skaters have strong visions of how they think things should look, and most of the time the only option is just handle that shit yourself. For his DIY darkroom project, Acosta moved the innards of his office (with a corner shelf dedicated to Vans Old Skools) out to an undisclosed location and built a darkroom from the ground up. He DIY’d, but he didn’t do it by himself; he had the help of his friends—including Ray Barbee—for this to develop, so to speak.

“I wanted to show people that it just takes the creativity in your head to make it happen.”
