VANS HAS INSTALLED 20TH ANNIVERSARY STATUE OF GEOFF ROWLEY AT STAPLES CENTER

Back in 1999, Geoff Rowley brought legendary photographer Daniel Harold Sturt (and a super secret cameraman) to the newly built Staples Center in downtown Los Angeles. The 50-50 on the king-sized hubba appeared in Flip’s Sorry! full-length from 2002, and in a Vans print ad. If you were skating during this time, the image would be burned in your mind, solidifying Rowley’s legacy as one of the most daring pros we’ve ever seen. Speaking of “solidifying”…

Vans has installed a bronze statue commemorating Rowley’s NBD at the Staples Center, capping the special anniversary event that was held at Vans HQ this week. Here’s Vans’ caption for the above post, featuring images of the statue and plaque, and video of the grind itself:

“To commemorate Geoff Rowley’s lifelong dedication to skateboarding and legacy for pushing what’s possible on a skateboard, we’ve added a statue of him at the site of his iconic grind at the LA Convention Center.”
