NATIONAL SHANE O’NEILL DAY — Shane O’Neill, 2010

Shane O’Neill’s breakout part for Skate Mental back in 2010 left a lot of people stunned. Introduced as a $3.99 digital download, the part was considered an investment in the future of skateboarding; a few bucks as payment for a job well done.

We screened his part back then for some of the Berrics’ regulars (Jim Greco, Rob Dyrdek, Jeron Wilson, Geoff Rowley, Mike Vallely, Guy Mariano, Eric Koston, Paul Rodriguez, Mikey Taylor, and Sean Malto) to get their thoughts, and the consensus was, This kid’s gonna be huge. Seven years later, we see Nike SB’s “Levels” and realize that we had no idea of the impact Shane would have.

The reactions from every pro we showed the part to were classic examples of “O’ face” (O’Neill face), eliciting strong reactions and, in the case of Dyrdek, disbelief: “He’s fuckin’ Australian?!”

Check out the vintage reactions below, then go watch “Levels” again and again…
