Last year’s short documentary about the Skateistan school in Afghanistan, Learning to Skateboard in a Warzone (If You’re a Girl), directed by Carol Dysinger, has been nominated for an Academy Award. The film, which joins Minding The Gap on the short list of skateboarding-themed docs that share this honor, was highlighted on Deadline this morning with a profile of Dysinger covering her experiences while working on the project.
To fully capture the story of the young girls in the documentary, Dysinger made an early logistical decision: ““It was very clear that to get it right, it had to be an all-female crew.”
