TYSHAWN JONES IS THE LATEST PRO SKATER PROFILED FOR ‘NEW YORK TIMES’

New York Times has made a habit of featuring pro skateboarders for the past ten years (at least). Chris Cole, Alexis Sablone, Chico Brenes, Ed Templeton, Lacey Baker… the list goes on. This time around the Times Magazine has profiled Tyshawn Jones, delivering some insight into what makes this 20-year-old tick. The article, written by Willy “Stalefish grab” Staley, does a great job of showing the substance behind the 2018 Populist nominee‘s dominance in skateboarding (among other pursuits).
An interesting tidbit covers how Jones got on Supreme, which might make you reevaluate how you imagined he got hooked up:
“One day, someone showed a clip of Jones skating to Ty Lyons, who works at Supreme’s flagship shop on Lafayette Street. Jones had done a 360 flip down nine stairs somewhere in Battery Park. Doing stuff like that, he was breaking six boards a month. Lyons was impressed and wanted to hook him up with free boards from Supreme. Jones agreed, but then didn’t show up for months. ‘I wasn’t like that,’ Jones says. ‘I don’t like asking people for stuff.’”
