Olympic Channel Investigates Norway’s Ban On Skateboarding in The ’80s

For over a decade, from 1978 to 1989, skateboarding was banned in Norway. However, when skateboards are outlawed only outlaws will have skateboards, and those outlaws are still rolling around today with stories to tell. The Olympic Channel took a deep dive into the history of Norway’s anti-skateboarding policies in the latest episode of their original series Foul Play, which features interviews with key figures of the ’80s Norwegian skate scene, revealing how they coped with the ban during a time that was arguably the biggest skateboarding boom ever.

This is a fascinating investigation of skate history, reconciling Norway’s killjoy past with its medal-seeking Olympic future. Watch the trailer above, and then check out the full episode at the Olympic Channel site.
