Skateistan Documentary ‘Learning To Skateboard In a Warzone…’ Wins Academy Award

Last year’s short documentary about the Skateistan school in Afghanistan, Learning to Skateboard in a Warzone (If You’re a Girl), directed by Carol Dysinger, has won the Oscar for Best Documentary Short Subject. This is the first time that a skateboarding film has been bestowed this honor! (Minding The Gap was nominated in the Documentary Feature category last year.) The film does an amazing job of showing the transformative effect that skateboarding can have across all cultures and genders—this is a huge moment for skateboarding.

Congrats to Dysinger, Skateistan, and the whole Learning to Skateboard in a Warzone (If You’re a Girl) crew!
